UV LED lamps can destroy novel coronavirus and HIV virus within 30 seconds

UV LED405nm 415NM780nM590nm light is used to destroy viruses through ultraviolet radiation, and the research team used UV LED light to irradiate bacterial spores that are resistant to such radiation in the early stage of the experiment.

If the UV LED lamp destroys bacterial spores that are resistant to radiation, it is reasonable to suggest that the UV LEDUV LED405nm 415NM780nM590nm lamp destroys most viruses commonly found in the environment.

The spores of these radiation-resistant bacteria dropped by 99 percent in just 20 seconds when exposed to external radiation. The research team then created droplets containing novel coronavirus or HIV to mimic the typical ways in which people might be exposed to the virus in public, such as from coughing, sneezing, etc.

 

These droplets containing the virus were then exposed to ultraviolet light and placed in cultures to analyze whether the virus remained active. The results showed that exposure to ultraviolet light for just 30 seconds reduced the virus's infectivity by 93 percent. After testing different concentrations of virus, the team found that samples with more virus particles were more resistant to UV LED light; However, even for high viral loads, infectivity decreased by 88 percent after UV exposure.

 

In addition, the team compared the disinfection performance of the UV LED light with that of two heavy-duty disinfectants used in laboratory studies, and observed that the UV LED light had similar disinfection effects and eliminated the virus.

Advantages and limitations of UV LED lamps

Despite the excellent disinfection performance of the UV LED lamp UV LED405nm 415NM780NM590nm, a small amount of uneliminated virus is still able to cause infectious events, which means that repeated exposure to UV light is crucial to eliminate the remaining virus particles.
